ALMA, Mich. -- Kicking off the 2021 fall portion of the schedule, the Albion College men's tennis team gritted out a tough 6-3 win over Alma College. The Britons picked up wins in the final four singles matches to secure the win.

At first doubles,
Brett Gurzell and
Drake Malcolm cruised to an 8-1 win. Earning an 8-5 win at third doubles was
Cecil Burkhart and
Michael Polizzi, helping Albion hold a 2-1 lead heading into singles.Â
Both Gurzell and
Danny McGarry dropped tough contests at first and second singles -- both falling in tiebreakers.Â
At third singles, Malcolm picked up a key 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Matthew Czarnecki grinded out a tiebreaker win at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-7(5), 10-3. Rounding out the singles lineup was Polizzi and
Patrick Smoker. Both Polizzi and Smoker earned wins in their matches.Â
Albion will host Anderson University on Oct. 2. On Oct. 1, select members of the team will compete at the ITA Regionals.
