LOOKING AT WEEK ONE

Six of the seven MIAA football schools are in action this week, with a pair of weekday games highlighting the slate. Trine gets the season started at Manchester on Thursday evening. The traditional Friday Night Lights finds its way to Holland when Hope hosts Anderson the following day. Four schools will be in action on Saturday -- Kalamazoo, Alma, Albion and Adrian. Kalamazoo and Albion will be on the road (Oberlin, Mt. St. Joseph) while the Scots and the Bulldogs kickoff their seasons at home against Bluffton and Heidelberg.

NORMAL?

Entering week one, hopes are high for a normal 10- game slate this season. All seven MIAA teams have plans to fully participate this fall.

TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES

Three Albion alums hold prime positions on the coaching staff. Head coach Dustin Beurer is a 2005 alumnus, while both coordinators -- Steve Wasil and Mark Sheridan -- are Albion grads. Following a storied career, Wasil graduated in 2006 and Sheridan, a 2013 MIAA Champion, is a 2014 grad.

AIN'T FIRST, YOU'RE LAST

For the second consecutive season, Albion was ranked first in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. After winning the conference in the condensed spring, the Britons were the unanimous top choice.

JACK OF ALL TRADES

Senior quarterback Jack Bush is back under center for the Brits. Already with a historic career to his name, he enters 2021 with 2,225 passing yards and 16 touchdowns in just 12 games.

ONE ISN'T THE LONELIEST NUMBER

Two players on the Albion roster -- Justin Thomas and John Wester Jr. -- wear jersey No. 1. The pair are catalysts for the Brits. Thomas, a wide receiver, has 95 career receptions and 28 touchdowns. Wester Jr., a junior defensive back, has been a key component to Albion's secondary in his career. He has 31 total tackles, 12 pass breakups and has picked off three passes.

ENTERING THE LION'S DEN

In their abbreviated spring, the Lions turned in a 5-1 record. Backed by an impressive freshman season from quarterback Josh Taylor, the Brits will have a tough test, as he is a threat both with his legs and in the passing game.
