Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big lead holds up at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. – Ken Thomas recorded his fourth double-double of the season in the Albion College men's basketball team's 88-79 win over Olivet College. In addition to Thomas's 21 points, senior Cortez Garland also added 21 points for the Brits.

Winners of three straight, Albion improves back to .500 at 8-8, 4-1 in the MIAA. The Comets drop to 5-11, 2-3 in the league.

Storming out to a 10-2 lead, the Britons led for the entirety of the contest. In that run, the Britons got four points from Justin McAbee and three each from Garland and Devin Holmes. McAbee finished with 13 points in the win.

Albion led by as many as 10 points in the period before the Comets began to climb back within striking distance. With 4:42 remaining in the first half, an Olivet layup saw the Brits leading by one point. At the other end, sophomore Fred Garland answered with a trey off an assist from his brother, halting the Comet momentum. Fred Garland finished the night with seven points and seven rebounds.

A late bucket from Thomas and a McAbee block had Albion ahead, 41-36 at halftime.

With just under seven minutes to play, the Britons used a big run to build the lead back up to double digits. The lead would hold throughout the remainder of the contest, as Olivet was unable to close the gap to single digits.

In addition to his 21 points, Thomas snatched 10 rebounds. Cortez Garland grabbed seven boards as well.

Senior Devin Holmes finished a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 11 points and totaling nine rebounds.

Albion looks to keep the win streak going on Saturday when they host Adrian. With a 3 p.m. tip off, the Britons will host the first half of a men's-women's doubleheader.
