Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB holds off Alma, wins fifth straight

ALMA, Mich. – Make it five wins in a row for the Albion College men's basketball team.

Facing a struggling Alma College team, the Brits did just enough to leave with a 66-59 win over the Scots. Albion continues to ride a wave of momentum, improving to 10-8 overall, 6-1 in the MIAA.

Senior Cortez Garland led Albion with 15 points, including a 6-6 mark from the foul line.

Ken Thomas chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Fred Garland added 11 points off the bench for the Brits, while distributing a game-high six assists.

Using a late run in the first half, Albion built a steady lead. With 4:37 before halftime, Albion closed out the period on a blistering 17-2 run. The Garlands combined for eight points during that span, with Thomas adding size and points. At the break, the Britons led, 43-26.

Alma worked to close the gap down the stretch, capitalizing on Albion miscues. The Scots also started to heat up from three, eventually cutting it to a one possession game.

Big free throws down the stretch proved vital for Albion, giving the Britons the win.

Cold from beyond the arc, Albion connected on just four of its 16 3-point attempts. Sealing Albion's win was their free throw shooting, turning in an 18-23 night.

The Britons will return to their home court on Saturday for the second half of a doubleheader against Hope College. Winning the previous matchup in Holland, the Brits look to sweep the season series over the Flying Dutch. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
