Game Recap: Football |

No. 20 football continues to roll

ALBION – Another remarkable defensive effort, combined with a lethal receiving unit helped the No. 20 Albion College football team to a 27-9 win over Adrian College. Albion improves to a spotless 8-0 on the year, matching the 1996 team as the last time the Brits started a season with eight consecutive wins.

Jack Bush and Luke Lovell combined to throw for 360 yards and account for four touchdowns. Senior Mark Tocco had another stellar day, bringing in four catches for 128 yards and a TD.

Andy Durand (4 rec, 72 yds, 2TD) and Brendan Teal (3 rec, 70 yds, TD) were also big pieces to the offensive puzzle. Phillip Jones-Price had a great game on the ground, following blockers to rush for 53 yards.

The MIAA Defensive Player of the Week, Nick Fannon, led Albion with nine total tackles. Seven different Britons recorded at least one TFL in the afternoon.

Bobby Willis, Ricky Pearson and Conner Smith all picked off Bulldog passes in the win.

It was a sluggish first quarter, as the teams were knotted at zero after 15 minutes of play. Albion's defense has provided a spark all year long when the offense struggles, and Bobby Willis answered the call today. Willis hauled in a 20-yard pick six to give the Britons a 6-0 lead just two minutes into the second quarter.

Adrian put together a six minute drive that culminated in a field goal, cutting the host's lead in half. Albion immediately answered, as three plays later, Bush found Tocco who beat the entire Bulldog defense for a 62-yard TD. A Jackson Cooney PAT was good, pushing the lead to 13-3.

Another stop by the Briton defense put the ball back in Bush's hands late in the half. An 85-yard drive was capped by a 4-yard pass to Durand in the end zone, as the Britons had a 20-3 lead. Adrian's final points came on a long touchdown with five seconds to play in the half, but the Briton defense would do what they've done all year – hang tough.

Midway through the third quarter, Cooney drilled a 39-yard field goal, pushing the advantage to 23-9. Albion forced a three and out deep in Adrian territory on the ensuing possession. Greg Piscopink came up big, blocking the punt before it was recovered by Devin Fridley-Bell at the Bulldog 19. Two plays later, Lovell connected with Teal for a 16-yard TD.

Leading 30-9 after three, Albion's final touchdown came with 8:03 remaining, as Lovell found a wide open Durand.

Albion's defense held the Bulldogs to converting on just two of 18 third down opportunities.

Next Saturday, the Britons welcome Olivet College for the final home game of the season. Kickoff on Senior Day is scheduled for 12 p.m.
