Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mamma Mia! Crawford nets game-winning PK to send WSOC to Semifinals

The sophomore helped Albion come away victorious at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – Mia Crawford really, really likes playing in Adrian.

The sophomore played one of the hero roles in the No. 5 Albion College women's soccer team's 0-0 (4-3 PK) win over No. 4 Adrian College in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. With a chance to send the Britons into the next round, Crawford buried a penalty kick into the lower right corner. A season ago, she scored the game-winner against the Bulldogs on the road, giving Albion a 1-0 win.

After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the teams went into overtime. Through two scoreless overtime periods, penalty kicks would ultimately decide the outcome of the contest.

The Bulldogs kicked first and scored on their first attempt on a beautiful shot. Kaitlyn Piontkowsky then stepped up for the Brits, netting a goal and tying the PK score. Adrian went up 2-1 after the next round of penalty kicks, but Becca Ross stepped up.

Ross made a save to give the Brits a chance to tie the score in the next round. Megan Loney tallied a goal to tie the mark at two, heading into the fourth round. The teams traded makes, thanks to a goal by Anna Said.

In the sixth round, Ross came up clutch again putting Albion in position to win. That set up Crawford's goal, allowing the Britons to advance into the second round.

"It was an incredible game between two teams, we give lots of credit to Adrian," said head coach Eric Scott. "Rayna [Edwards], Avery [Kasanic] and Quinn [Natschke] stood out … and Becca in the shootout was outstanding."

On Wednesday, the Britons head to No. 1 Calvin for a 7 p.m. match in the semifinals.
