NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – In their final match of the fall, the Albion College men's tennis team prevailed in a 7-2 win over Manchester University. The Britons swept doubles play to hold a 3-0 lead early in the match.
At first doubles, the dangerous tandem of
Brett Gurzell and
Drake Malcolm continued their success with an 8-4 win.
Jacob Doyle and
Josh Doyle went on to win in second doubles, 8-1. Another pair of freshmen –
Brendan Morrison and
Brandon Blake – earned an 8-2 win in third doubles.
Gurzell rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles. At second singles, Morrison dropped a tough match in a heartbreaker (7-6 (3), 3-6, 8-10).
Malcolm got the Britons back on track with a 6-3, 6-1 win at third singles. With a score of 6-1, 6-0, Josh Doyle picked up the win at fourth singles. His brother, Jacob, also won his singles match – a 6-4, 6-0 mark at fifth singles.
Albion will continue to train over the winter before the men kick off spring action on Feb. 11.
