Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Edwards tallies five points in WSOC win

OLIVET, Mich. – After two desolating losses, the Albion College women's soccer team answered with a 3-0 win over Olivet College. Three seniors were involved in scoring opportunities to help the Brits improve to 4-2-3 overall, 1-1-0 in the MIAA.

In the 9th minute, Megan Piontkowsky played a beautiful ball to Rayna Edwards. Edwards finished with an equally impressive header past the Comet keeper for an early 1-0 lead.

Albion doubled its lead before the half, thanks to Megan Loney. Loney scored off a feed from Edwards to help the visitors hold a 2-0 advantage at the break.

Less than two minutes into the new half, Edwards tacked on to the Briton lead with her second goal of the afternoon – this one coming off a rebound.

The Britons had chances to add to their lead, but hit the post or crossbar numerous times in the win.

Albion outshot the Comets by a sizable 37-3 mark. The visitors also held a significant advantage in corner kicks (7-1).

In her first start, Becca Ross made three saves to earn the win and the clean sheet in goal.

Albion returns to its home pitch on Saturday for Homecoming and Hall of Fame weekend. The match against Alma is scheduled for 4 p.m. Prior to the contest, Albion will honor its 2022 Hall of Fame induction class – an all-female class in celebration of fifty years of Title IX.
