Tocco, Sanders lead 13 All-MIAA honorees

Mark Tocco was named the Offensive MVP while De'Ondric Sanders received the Pete Schmidt Award

LANSING, Mich. – For the third straight season, the MIAA Offensive MVP belongs to Albion College, as Mark Tocco led 12 all-conference selections, announced on Tuesday. Tocco is now the third straight Briton (Jack Bush '20, Justin Thomas '21) to earn the honor.

Tocco led the league in receiving yards per game with 97.7 and touchdowns (10). He hauled in 59 receptions on the year and six times registered 100-plus receiving yards.

Senior linebacker De'Ondric Sanders earns the league's prestigious Pete Schmidt Award. The award is presented to the top senior scholar athlete. He is also a vocal leader on the team, on campus and in the community.

Joining Tocco on the first team are Jarron Masuga, Scott Roskopp, Nick Fannon, Jeremiah Major, Stephen Douglas and Ricky Pearson.

Masuga and Roskopp are a pair of senior linemen that were crucial to the success of the Briton offense and protection of the quarterbacks this season. A 2021 Second Team selection, this is Roskopp's second All-MIAA pick while Masuga earns his first.

Fannon enjoyed a breakout season on the defensive line. The junior ended the season with 15 TFL – third-most in the MIAA. Additionally, he racked up 57 total tackles.

Major's 84 total tackles ranked third in the MIAA. He also finished just behind Fannon with 11.5 TFL on the year, good for fourth in the league. This was Major's second First Team honor.

Another Briton who had a stellar breakout season was Douglas. Douglas finished the year with 52 total tackles, two picks, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries – leading the team in a majority of those categories. He added a pick six and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

A conference-high 12 pass breakups landed Pearson on the First Team. One of the top defensive backs in the league, this is Pearson's second time being honored with postseason accolades by the MIAA.

Albion saw five players named to the second team – Jack Bush, Duwayne Legette, Casmer Johnson, Conner Smith and Hunter Williams.

Despite an injury-plagued season, Bush still delivered, completing 95 of 142 passes for 1,198 yards and 13 touchdowns. A three-time All-MIAA selection, Bush was invaluable when injured, mentoring a young quarterback and serving as one of the team's top leaders.

Legette picked up his first All-MIAA honor following a season with 29 total tackles. As a junior, he started all 10 games on the defensive line.

For the second straight season, Johnson was named to the Second Team. Johnson finished with 39 total tackles, five pass breakups and a pair of quarterback hurries.

Smith, a senior, earns his first all-conference nod. The linebacker was tied with Fannon for second-most tackles on the squad with 57. He also recorded 8.5 TFL for 22 yards, three picks, three breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Williams rounds out the teams by receiving his second All-MIAA pick. Albion's punter and kickoff man, Williams averaged 59.8 yards per kickoff this season. As a punter, he pinned opponents inside their own 20 on 19 of his 45 punts, with a season-long of 67 yards.

The Britons ended the season with a 9-1 overall record, second in the MIAA.
