Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brilliant comeback falls just short for MBB

WOOSTER, Ohio – A feverish comeback came up just short, as the Albion College men's basketball team dropped a 92-89 decision to Carnegie Mellon. Trailing by as many as 23, the Brits cut the deficit to two points with under a minute to play, but could not find the go-ahead bucket.

Leading the charge was senior Ken Thomas, who scored a season-high 23 points for the Brits while bringing down 10 rebounds. Fred Garland had 14 points and dished out six assists, while Khy Winston scored 12 points.

The first half was all Carnegie Mellon, as Albion could not find its groove offensively. At the end of the first period, the Tartans held a substantial 49-28 lead.

Out of the break, Albion made its run midway through the period, slowly chipping away at the Tartan lead. With 11:23 on the clock, Thomas sank a 3-pointer to put Albion down by 10. After a stop, a layup from the senior brought the Brits to within double digits for the first time since early in the contest.

With 48 seconds remaining, Lamar Lee drained a three to cut the CMU lead to four. However, forced to foul the Tartans who made a majority of their free throws down the stretch, Albion could not bring the score closer than two points.

On Wednesday, the Britons open up MIAA action with a road contest at Calvin. Albion will play in the second half of a men's-women's doubleheader, with the men scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
