Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Garland puts up 27 at PSU-Altoona

ALTOONA, Penn. – After an extended hiatus, the Albion College men's basketball team returned to the court on Friday night, dropping an 81-75 decision to a tough Penn State-Altoona squad. In the loss, junior Fred Garland scored a career-high 27 points for the Britons.

Ken Thomas recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Freshman Beck Willems had another strong night off the bench, scoring 10 points.

Through a back and forth first half, the Brits extended their lead to as many as seven points. Albion stretched its lead thanks to a three from Willems and a fast break dunk by Thomas.

Late in the period, the Lions went on a small run to cut into Albion's advantage. Despite the PSU-Altoona run, the Britons were able to fend off the hosts and take a 43-40 lead into halftime.

With 15 minutes to play, Albion held an eight point lead, but once again, the hosts used a run to close the gap. Just three and a half minutes later, the Lions vaulted ahead for the first time in the second half. The teams would trade buckets for the next five minutes before the Lions took the lead for good with six minutes on the clock.

Albion slips to 1-5 overall on the young season.

The Brits will remain in Pennsylvania on Saturday when they face off against La Roche. Tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
