Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Four finish in double figures as MBB grinds out win

ALBION – In their final home game of the regular season, the Albion College men's basketball team came away victorious in an 84-74 win over Olivet College. Ken Thomas recorded his sixth

Cortez Garland tacked on 16 points for the Britons, while Justin McAbee and Jonathan Armstead-Wilkerson each scored a dozen.

Albion held the lead for the first half, but could never seize the momentum long enough to go on a big run. In the final minute of the first half, Thomas and Fred Garland each scored two points to build the Albion lead to 42-31 at the break.

With 14:23 to play, Olivet cut the Albion lead to just one point. The Britons found an answer, never relinquishing the lead. Up three a minute later, Thomas found McAbee for a bucket, pushing the lead back to five.

Olivet remained within striking distance, and trimmed the lead to two points after a 3-pointer by Chris Martin with 5:27 on the clock. Martin led all scorers with 24 points.

With 3:24 to play, Thomas sank a pair of free throws to inflate the lead to two. Despite a Comet basket, Armstead-Wilkserson answered in a big way. The junior drained a clutch three with 2:07 on the clock, giving Albion a seven point lead.

Albion secured the win with 1:06 to play, when Cortez Garland drew an offensive foul, keeping the lead at seven and preventing Olivet from making it a two possession game.

Needing to hit free throws down the stretch, the Britons cashed in on nearly 81 percent from the foul line. The Garland brothers and Armstead-Wilkerson combined to go a perfect 13-13.

With one game remaining in the regular season, the Brits stand at 13-11 overall, 9-4 in the MIAA. On Saturday, Albion will travel to Calvin for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
