MTEN picks up first win of the spring

ALBION – After two weeks off, the Albion College men's tennis team was back in action, earning their first win of the spring season. The Britons handily defeated Manchester, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Heading into the match up 3-0 via forfeits, the Brits made sure they remained in control of the match.

At first doubles, Brett Gurzell and Drake Malcolm picked up an 8-2 win. They were followed by an 8-4 win in second doubles, courtesy of Danny McGarry and Patrick Smoker. The pair have won two straight doubles matches this spring. Albion held a 3-0 edge at the end of doubles play.

At first singles, Gurzell secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory. With scores of 6-1, 6-1, McGarry defeated his opponent at second singles. Rounding out the day were wins by Malcolm and Michael Polizzi by commanding scores.

On Tuesday, the Britons will host Spring Arbor for a 4 p.m. match.
