Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX slashes Spartans for seventh win

ALBION – A record setting performance from Jace Conley and a dominant defense led the Albion College men's lacrosse team to a 23-5 throttling of Aurora University. On a cold day in southern Michigan, Conley lit up the scoreboard, exploding for 10 goals – a single game record.

Junior Sam Puzevic turned in a five point day as sophomores Brock Yabs and Timmy Salinas finished with four points apiece. Gerald Haadsma was outstanding from the face off X. The senior captain won 20 of 25 face offs, adding three points and scooping up 14 ground balls.

Leading 7-1 after one, the Britons scored early and often to take full control of the contest. Ethan Rottell found Yabs to open the scoring less than a minute into the game. Following a Spartan goal, the Brits answered with goals from Conley, Rottell (2), Puzevic, Salinas and Yabs to hold a six goal advantage after one.

Aurora scored the first two goals of the second quarter before the Brits added to their lead. A pair of goals from Conley combined with scores by Puzevic and Haadsma pushed Albion to an 11-4 lead at halftime.

Albion outscored the visitors, 6-0, in the third quarter to build a sizable lead. The story remained all purple and gold throughout the second half, putting the Britons back on the winning track and improving to 7-2 overall.

Defensively, freshman Will Tessin caused a career-high four turnovers.

The Britons outshot Aurora 61-26 in the win. Albion was efficient on the clear, converting 14 of 20 attempts.

Albion was a perfect four of four in extra man opportunities.

Freshman goalie Jack Erickson (2-1) picked up the win, making nine saves in net.

Albion closes out the non conference portion of its schedule next Saturday at Transylvania. First face off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
