Polizzi wins twice, MTEN falls to Calvin

ALBION, Mich. — It was a tough setback for the Albion College men's tennis team, falling 5-4 to Calvin University. The Brits trailed 2-1 after doubles play and could not make up enough ground in singles.

At first doubles, Drake Malcolm and Brett Gurzell dropped a tight 8-6 match. Albion fell in another close doubles match, as Danny McGarry and Patrick Smoker were on the losing end of an 8-5 match.

Cecil Burkhart and Michael Polizzi earned Albion's line doubles win with an 8-3 victory at third doubles.

In singles play, Albion won the matches at first and second singles thanks to Gurzell and McGarry. Gurzell claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win while McGarry gritted out a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 tiebreaker,

Polizzi picked up the other win at singles, as the sophomore won 6-3, 6-4.

Albion will be in action next on Apr. 20 at Kalamazoo.
