Hope takes two from baseball

ALBION – Command issues on the mound and some tough breaks cost the Albion College baseball team, being swept by Hope College on Saturday.

In game one, the pitching staff allowed 21 free passes – 14 walks and seven hit batters in a 17-2 loss. 

Freshman Ethan Caris had two hits while Ryker Mazey and Carson Dunn drove in the only Albion runs. 

In game two, an early lead slipped away from Albion. Pete Loch turned in a solid performance on the mound, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three in a no-decision. 

Freshman Chris Marshall was 3 for 4 for the Britons including a solo home run. Matt McGann and Mark Lauro each recorded two hits and a home run. 

Hope scored three in the eighth to take an 8-5 lead. 

The Brits will play two seven inning games at Bluffton on Sunday.
