Men's tennis turns in best record since 2014

ALBION – On Senior Day, the Albion College men's tennis team wrapped up the 2022 campaign with an 8-1 win over Alma College. The Brits finish the season 8-8 – the best since 2014 when they finished 8-9.

At first singles, Brett Gurzell and Drake Malcolm won 8-1. The duo closed out the season with a 10-4 record at first doubles. Cecil Burkhart and Michael Polizzi picked up an 8-5 win at third doubles. The win earned Burkhart his 10th doubles win of the year.

Albion swept singles play to cruise to the match win. Both Gurzell and Danny McGarry picked up wins at first and second singles by identical 6-2, 6-2 margins. Sophomore Drake Malcolm earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles as well.

Patrick Smoker, Burkhart and Polizzi all went on to win their matches as well. Polizzi and Smoker won at fourth and fifth singles, while Burkhart earned a tiebreaker win at six singles.

Prior to the match, Albion honored its four seniors – Patrick Smoker, Stephen Smoker, Burkhart and McGarry.
