Bullpen fares well against Bluffton

ALBION – On a bullpen day, the Albion College baseball team's pitching staff allowed just one earned run. The offense and defense were not there to back them up, dropping a 5-2 decision to Bluffton University in the team's final nonconference game of the season. 

Seven different pitchers were used on Wednesday, striking out nine batters while giving up just one earned run, scattering six hits. 

Bluffton built a 3-0 lead through three before Albion finally broke through in the sixth. 

Sean Haddlesey lined a leadoff double to right and came around to score on a RBI two-bagger by Mark Lauro. With Lauro on third and two away, an error by Bluffton allowed the junior to cross, bringing the Brits to within a run. 

Bluffton scored a pair of unearned runs in the eighth to create distance from the Britons and provide themselves with key insurance runs. 

Albion has six MIAA games left and all of them are key in deciding whether or not they clinch a spot in the upcoming MIAA Tournament. With a logjam at seeds 2 through 7, the Britons will play two of the first three games against Trine on Saturday. First pitches in Albion will be at 1 and 4 p.m.
