As part of a year-long celebration recognizing 50 years of Title IX, the Albion College Athletic Department is excited to announce its 2022 Hall of Fame induction class – composed of all women. This event will take place on Oct. 7 during Homecoming weekend, where Albion plans to induct nine individuals and two teams.
Sue Ray '72: A pioneer in women's athletics at Albion, Ray participated in volleyball, basketball and tennis. She also served as a coach for the women's basketball team for the 1974-75 season and was part of the Women's Athletic Association.
Susan Grettenberger '77: Not only a terrific athlete, but Grettenberger was responsible for helping start up the softball program at Albion College. She played in all but one game during her four seasons on the basketball court.
Jill Barry '81: A dual-sport athlete in field hockey and softball, Barry was a four year starter on the softball team, with three years starting in field hockey.
Kelly Lewis '94: An incredible basketball and softball player, Lewis still ranks in the top ten in career points (1,162) and rebounds (630) in Albion history. Upon graduating, Lewis was third all-time in scoring and was second in rebounding. Additionally, Lewis still ranks second in career triples, fifth in stolen bases and batted .400 in 1992.
Betsy Netherton '06: A four-time All-MIAA performer on the tennis courts, Netherton was named Second Team in 2003 and 2004, before gaining First Team honors in 2005 and 2006. As a junior and senior, she was part of the third doubles team that won the MIAA.
Emily Magyar '10: Magyar was a two-time All-American diver for the Brits, earning the highest of accolades as a junior and a senior. The 2010 MIAA Diver of the Year, Magyar was a three-time All-MIAA selection.
Morgan Watler '10: In just three seasons as a Briton, Watler shattered many records, becoming Albion's all-time kills leader with 1,308 – one that still stands to this day. She holds the record for kills in a single season in both 30 point sets (503) and 25 point sets (442).
Ashley Collins '11: Another powerful swimmer for Albion, Collins claimed All-MIAA honors as both a junior and senior. Upon graduation, she held the record for the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.93.
Chelsea Anthony '12: An incredible thrower on the Briton track and field squad, she still holds the school record in the discus (44.33m). Upon graduation, she ranked second in Albion history in the shot put (11.86m) and earned the MIAA Field Athlete of the Year honors as a senior.
2011 Women's Tennis: A perfect 8-0 in league play, the 2011 women's tennis team won the MIAA Championship while posting a 15-4 overall record. Led by First Team selection Shelley Zamler, the Britons saw three members of the team receive all-conference accolades, as well as the Sue Little Sportsmanship Award.
1980 Field Hockey: Part of a run of successful squads, the 1980 field hockey team continued its dominance going a perfect 6-0 in league play. That 6-0 record was part of a span that stretched for four years of a 22-0-2 league record. The team made it to regionals at Denison University and went to the DIII AIAW Field Hockey Tournament.
