Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bench leads men's basketball to win at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Call it a comeback.

Lifted by big minutes and even bigger buckets from its bench, the Albion College men's basketball team knocked off Kalamazoo College, 67-60.

Ken Thomas's 19 points led all scorers. Junior guard Fred Garland recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points and bringing down 11 rebounds while adding five assists.

AJ Barden scored a career-high 11 points off the bench in the victory.

Trailing 46-36 with 13 minutes on the clock, things looked bleak for the Britons as Kalamazoo had all the momentum. The Brits slowly chipped away at the Kalamazoo lead, Albion went on to score the next eight points, trimming the hosts' advantage to two. With 8:19 remaining, Barden's basket knotted the contest up at 48.

Freshman Nathan Steinman gave Albion the lead for good with 6:26 on the clock. Lamar Lee found the sharp-shooter to vault the Brits up 53-51 – a lead they would not relinquish.

Kalamazoo cut the Briton lead to five with 26 seconds left. After Albion missed the front end of a one and one, Barden hauled in the offensive rebound and followed with a bucket, sealing the win as the visitors went up by seven.

The Briton bench outscored Kalamazoo, 27-19 – led by Barden, Lee and Marco Lucchesi

Albion now moves to 4-10 overall, 1-2 in the rugged MIAA. The Brits will host Hope College on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
