Football upended by Trine

ALBION – Unable to find answers on both sides of the ball, the Albion College football team fell to Trine University, 35-28. The loss is Albion's first home loss in the regular season since Oct. 5, 2019.

Luke Lovell was 26 of 38 for 267 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target was senior Kye Bristow, who hauled in seven passes for 106 yards and three TDs.

Trine bolted out to a 14-0 lead before the midpoint of the opening quarter, setting the tone early on. A 70-yard drive was capped by the Britons getting on the scoreboard, as Lovell's pass to Bristow was good from 19 yards out. After Bristow's catch and Logan Grwinski's PAT, the Britons trailed 14-7.

Not long into the second quarter, the Thunder took a 28-7 advantage, as the Albion defense had a tough time eliminating big plays by the visitors. Albion cut the lead in the half by the break, as another pass to Bristow resulted in a TD.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Lovell found Nick Christian in the end zone to cut it to a one score game. The second play of the final period was a 2-yard touchdown pass.

Trine answered on the ensuing possession to regain a double digit lead.

With three minutes remaining, Lovell and Bristow connected once more as the senior bulldozed his way into the end zone. However, the Albion defense could not find the stop it needed to put the ball back in Lovell's hands for one final drive.

Curtis Hamilton had a career day, gaining 76 all-purpose yards. Senior Brandon Camfield led the Albion defense with seven tackles.

As a team, Albion was whistled for 10 penalties for 82 yards.

Next Saturday, the Britons head to Adrian College for a 3 p.m. kickoff against the Bulldogs.
