Esports week in Review: Oct. 16-21

Albion, MI— The Albion College Esports team was back in action last week across multiple games.

Monday evening the Albion Valorant team had a match against Anderson University, resulting in a well-deserved 2-1 victory. The Brits the first map 13 - 10 and had a lot of great retakes and attack sided pushes. Player Robbie "Revelant" Burns was praised for his ace in round 5. Once the Brits swapped to the offensive side in the next map, they started to get more rounds on their opponents and went on a five round win streak before eventually dropping the final to round to end map 2 at 13-9. The Albion Valorant team then split the next 4, before closing out the match with a score of 13-10 to secure that victory.

Tuesday night Logan "vLogey Bear" Sosnowski won his match, 2-0, over his opponent from Huntingdon College in NBA 2K. Julian "StoryofGreed" Pacheco lost his match against his opponent from the University of Central Missouri with a score of 2-1, in a close match on stream.

The following night, the NBA 2k24 trio won their series with a score of 3-1, in a competitive match against the Concordia University Falcons. They continue to build their momentum from Week One, and use it to fuel their chemistry and gameplay to continue their success.

By the arrival of Friday evening, the Smash Ultimate team was gearing up for their match against Calvin University. The first game was pretty even all throughout, and each of the three Albion players for this first round took three enemy stocks. The second game lost a little bit of momentum initially when Ezra "TheWatcher" Moore was defeated early on, but player Seph "melikestrains" Cartier was able to build that momentum back up again and take some stocks from the opposing team. Heath "Cyclone" LaPointe was able to finish off their last opponent, establishing another 2-0 victory for the side of the Britons.

A few hours later the League of Legends team went against their opponent from Concordia University Ann Arbor. The match was closer in the second game when swapping Joseph "K1NGSM3N" Krzcoik to top lane and Nate "Soapyboi" Ward to jungle but a last baron fight sealed the last game for the other team. The chosen MVP was "Soapyboi" for switching to a role he typically doesn't play all while out performing a jungler that is 2 divisions above him in rank.

Early Saturday afternoon the Valorant Team had another match against opponents from Indiana Wesleyan, which ended in a score of 2-0, and a loss for the Britons. This was an incredibly hard fought match.
