Albion, Mich. -- The Albion College Esports team has been busy across the last few matches, providing strong showings across nearly all games this fall.
Albion played Brooklyn College in SSBU. It was a tough match each team taking stocks back and forth but Albion went down 0-2.
Enkhbaatar Saranbaatar had another strong set of matches, finishing 1st, 2nd, and 5th. He remains near the top of the leaderboard in 3rd place overall.
Fortnite No Build Duo's team
Izahia Salas and
Jose Preciado placed 18th in games one and three, and 5th in game two on after switching drop spots and benefiting from favorable zones.
Marco Marquez and Emmanuel Rostor-Gonzalez continued their strong season. While exact placements weren't recorded, the team continues to perform well week to week.
Marvel Rivals played Williamson College of the Trades on October 22nd, losing 0-3. Communication issues affected the team's performance this week.
Albion's SSBU took on John Brown University. In game one, Heath Lapointe nearly took out the entire team himself, claiming 11 stocks and securing the win. In game two,
Tanner Armstrong and
Samuel Lynch swept the opposing team, giving Albion the 2-0 victory.
On October 23rd the team had their best performance of the season, finishing 12th, 5th, and 18th. In game two, they tallied 6 kills, a season high. A new aggressive strategy focusing on early fights paid off with stronger placements. Overwatch 2 faced Saint Joseph's University and came up short, dropping the match, 1-3.
Albion played Ashland University for GLEC on October 24th. It was a hard-fought battle, but Albion fell 0-2.
Enkhbaatar Saranbaatar continued his consistent play, placing 3rd and 4th in his matches. Despite the solid performance, he dropped one spot and now sits just one point behind 3rd place.
In ECAC play, Albion faced Heidelberg University. It was a back-and-forth match — Albion dropped game one by just one stock but rallied to win games two and three by one and two stocks respectively.
Samuel Lynch and Heath Lapointe carried the load, taking 16 stocks each.
On October 28th Albion opened MIAA play against Olivet College. Rocket League kicked off th the team's first match of the season and started with a slow rhythm. Game two was tightly contested but ended in a heartbreaking last-second goal by Olivet. Albion fell 0-3 overall.
Connor Schultz led the team with two goals in his Rocket League debut.
SSBU began MIAA play against Olivet with a dominant performance, winning 2-0. In each match, the team only needed two of three players to secure the victory. Albion's Overwatch 2 team turned in a stellar performance with a 3-0 defeate of Olivet in MIAA action.
Fortnite No Build Duo's (Purple) team had
Jose Preciado out sick,
Raymundo Robles subbed in and made an immediate impact. The team placed 8th with 5 kills in game one, followed by 18th and 22nd finishes in the next two matches.
Marvel Rivals took on Hudson University on October 29th and earned their first win of the season, sweeping 3-0. Despite the final scoreline, each match was close, with several going into overtime.
The Fortnite Builds team started with a skybase strategy that earned 12th place and 3 kills. However, they were eliminated early in the next two games by bush campers, placing 14th and 20th.
Overwatch 2 dropped an 0-3 decision to Elmira College.
In Team Fight Tactics Saranbaatar bounced back from the previous week, taking two 2nd-place finishes. While new rankings are not yet available, he's projected to move back into 3rd and is in excellent position for playoffs.
Izahia Salas and
Jose Preciado struggled with major game changes from a weekend update, placing 24th, 26th, and 17th. They'll look to rebound next week and secure a semifinal playoff berth.
However, the new map update worked in
Marco Marquez and Emmanuel Rostor-Gonzalez favor placing 5th (2 kills), 15th, and 4th. With one week remaining, Team Gold is in strong contention for a direct berth to finals.
