Volleyball secures win on night one of MIT Invitational

Albion was led by Olivia Alexander's 20 kills.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the first day of the MIT Invitational, the Albion College volleyball team knocked off Illinois College, 3-1. In the win, Olivia Alexander recorded her second 20-kill night of the season. 

In each of the three sets the Britons won, Albion won handily with scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-16. Albion had 13 service aces in the win, as junior Ja'Nyece Larry had a career night with six aces. 

Leading the defense was Paige Williamson with 18 digs. Both Alexander and Courtney Companion finished with double-digit digs as well, with Alexander tallying 12 and Companion with 14. 

Senior Mariah Brenz ended the night with 23 assists. On the block, she and Larry recorded three apiece, while freshman Reese Williams led Albion with five total blocks. 

The Brits wrap up the weekend on Saturday with games against Swarthmore and MIT. At 11 a.m., Albion will take on Swarthmore before ending the day with a match against nationally-ranked MIT at 2 p.m.
