Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball earns resounding win in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – Led by sharp-shooting from three, the Albion College men's basketball team responded to Saturday's loss with a 77-47 win over California Tech. The Britons shot nearly 43 percent from beyond the arc, as a balanced scoring lineup made them a tough team to guard.

Senior Marco Lucchesi led the Brits, scoring 13 points in just 18 minutes. Lucchesi was a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor. Kam Mayes finished a point shy of a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 11 boards off the bench.

With seven assists, sophomore Nathan Steinman set a career-mark as the prime distributor of Albion's offense.

Knotted at 12, the Britons pulled away with an 18-3 run that spanned through the middle portion of the first half. Back to back 3-pointers from sophomores Nate Childers and Beck Willems lifted the Albion lead to 11 points. The pair combined for 17 points off the bench in the victory.

Lucchesi scored the final five points of the first half for the Brits, as they took a 43-25 lead into halftime.

The story remained all Albion throughout the second period, never letting go of their double digit advantage. In addition to Mayes, AJ Barden was a force on the boards, bringing down seven rebounds – six on the defensive end.

Registering a field goal percentage of over 50 percent, the Britons were efficient in their shot selections. At the other end, Albion forced the Beavers to shoot a mere 23 percent from the floor, including 15 percent from beyond the arc.

Albion remains on the road for a midweek matchup at Ohio Wesleyan. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
