Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Another dominant win for women's basketball

RICHMOND, Ind. – Nothing like opening up the year with a pair of big wins.

After a blowout victory on Saturday, the Albion College women's basketball team knocked off Earlham College 97-48. Sophomore Ava Guilford led Albion with a career-best 16 points, including a perfect 4 for 4 mark from three. She also added six assists, a new career-high as well.

A trio of Britons finished with 14 points. Riley Davis added six rebounds and five dimes to her 14 point day, as junior Brazyll Watkins scored 14 as well. Coming off the bench, freshman Meghan Trewhella had another strong showing with 14 points for Albion.

The Britons built their lead to 20 after a technical foul was assessed to the home team. Davis sank both free throws, and made a layup on the ensuing possession to lift Albion up 37-17.

Throughout the final moments of the first half, the Britons got buckets in transition, primarily from Davis and Guilford to hold a 49-20 lead at the break. Guilford knocked down a corner three as time expired to help inflate the large lead.

Throughout the second half, the Britons continued to hold a large lead, as two more players finished the day in double figures. Lolo Reed recorded five assists to go along with her 11 points, as junior Emma Cooke scored 10. Sophomore Payton Baker totaled nine points and eight rebounds in the win.

Albion was incredible from the floor, connecting on 57 percent of its field goals, including going over 50 percent from deep. Earlham did not make a single 3-pointer at the other end of the floor.

The Brits were bolstered by 25 points off 21 Quaker turnovers. Albion outscored Earlham 30-8 in the second quarter to build the insurmountable lead.

On Saturday, the Brits will play Wittenberg University as part of a two-day tournament hosted by Trine University. Game time against the Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m.
