Western equestrian wins twice at home

ALBION – Claiming High Point team titles in both shows, the Albion College western equestrian team had a strong showing at its home show on Saturday.

In the morning show, Ella Farwell qualified for western regionals in Rookie B Horsemanship after winning the event, as Madison Weedon also qualified for western regionals in Level I Horsemanship, taking first. 

Junior Carli Kerns started the day off by taking fourth in Open Reining. Following it up, the Britons saw two place in Level II Ranch Riding – Anna Divis (second) and Miley Phillips (sixth). Abigail Nevins later took fourth in her section of Rookie B Horsemanship. 

Bryn Osborne won Rookie A Horsemanship, as Aria Morgan won Open Horsemanship. Kerns tacked on a fourth place finish in the event as well. The Britons were well represented in Beginner Horsemanship, as Kailey Kowalchuk and Katelyn Proshek each won their sections. Dylan Allison was second in the event. 

In Level II Horsemanship, Divis was third and Jenna Smith  placed sixth. Senior Ainslie Schlagel took fifth in her section of Level I Horsemanship. In the second section, Anastasia Kiser was the winner. 

Divis and Morgan were stellar in the afternoon show. Divis earned High Point Rider honors as Morgan was selected as Reserve High Point Rider. 

Morgan started the show by winning Open Reining. Kerns followed, finishing third in the event. In Level II Ranch Riding, Divis came away victorious as Albion saw Phillips finish fourth. Nevins was third in Rookie B Horsemanship, while Osborne, a sophomore, won Rookie A Horsemanship.

Morgan carried on her winning ways with a blue ribbon in Open Horsemanship. Proshek (first) and Kowalchuk (second) along with Allison (first) were all phenomenal in their sections of Beginner Horsemanship.

Albion had a trio of riders place in Level II Horsemanship, led by a win from Divis. Amelia Otten claimed third as Weedon earned fourth. Schlagel later won Level I Horsemanship, as Kiser was third and Farwell finished fourth. 

With the win, Proshek qualified for western regionals in Beginner Horsemanship.

The Western Equestrian team will be idle until Dec. 2 when they travel to Adrian College.
