Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s basketball dominates Union in Puerto Rico finale

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – A balanced effort and Emma Cooke's third straight double-double led the Albion College women's basketball team to a 56-36 victory over Union College. Cooke scored a team-best 14 points and grabbed 10 boards in her fourth double-double of the season.

Senior guard Lolo Reed turned in an 11-point performance. She added five assists — a game-high — in the win. Classmate Riley Davis had a solid stat line of nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Both Brazyll Watkins and Daniah Beavers contributed seven points apiece.

Coming off a tough first quarter Monday, the Britons scored in bunches, taking a 15-7 lead after one. Five of Albion's points came from Davis, including a big 3-pointer that extended the advantage to nine points.

Thanks to back to back buckets from freshman Meghan Trewhella, the Brits were able to inflate the lead to double digits in the second quarter. Every time Union threatened to trim the lead to single digits, the Britons had an answer led by Trewhella and Reed.

Taking a 10 point cushion into the half, Albion came out retained and all momentum throughout the third quarter. The lead was plenty to last for the remainder of the contest, watching the Britons improve to 6-5 this season.

Albion brought down 54 rebounds compared to just 36 by Union. With Cooke and Reed playing a huge role, the Britons netted 38 points in the paint. Union scored just four.

Albion will be off for the holiday before a two-game classic hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. On Dec. 29, the Brits will play Heidelberg University for a 5 p.m. tip.
