Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's hoops handles Heidelberg

DELAWARE, Ohio – Using a 20-7 second quarter, the Albion College women's basketball team dominated Heidelberg University, 73-39 on Friday evening. Four Brits finished in double figures, improving to 7-5 this season.

Daniah Beavers led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds. Fellow post Emma Cooke added 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win, while Riley Davis and Brazyll Watkins scored 10 each.

Idle since Dec. 19, Albion got off to a slow start. With 3:16 remaining in the opening quarter, a layup from Davis vaulted the Britons ahead for good. Four more points before the break by Cooke saw the Brits leading 14-9 after one.

Albion started the second quarter on a 10-0 run as four different Brits made baskets in the stretch. Cooke, Beavers, Davis and Lolo Reed all scored while holding the Student Princes scoreless until 4:16 remaining before halftime. By halftime, Albion increased its lead to 18 points in a commanding 34-16 advantage.

The Brits continued their dominance throughout the second half, disrupting the Heidelberg offense and getting good looks offensively. Albion scored 18 points off 22 turnovers by the Berg. With Cooke and Beavers leading the charge, Albion outscored Heidelberg in the paint, 50-8.

Albion concludes its Ohio trip tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game against host, Ohio Wesleyan.
