Baseball drops two on opening weekend

WESTFIELD, Ind. – It was a tough opening weekend for the Albion College baseball team, dropping a pair of contests down in Indiana. On Friday, the team dropped a 14-0 decision to Otterbein and then fell Saturday, 14-2, to Wabash College.

In Friday's game, the Britons could only muster three hits, with two coming off the bat of senior first baseman, Mark Lauro. Lauro was 2 for 4 in the loss. Albion's other hit came from Austyn Stephens, who finished 1 for 3.

10 of the 14 runs allowed were earned. Sophomore Brayden Raether struck out six through four innings.

On Saturday, the Britons left 10 runners stranded, as they could not string together hits. As a team, the Brits recorded nine hits.

Four different players recorded multi-hit games. Patrick Merolla was 2 for 4 with a RBI and a double. Lauro finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and a double, while junior Matt McGann was 2 for 3.

Stephens added a pair of hits and drove in a run.

Albion will play in Florida on Monday with a game against Dubuque. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
