Men's tennis cruises to home victory

ALBION – It was a dominant victory for the Albion College men's tennis team, defeating Olivet College, 9-0. Reigning MIAA Athlete of the Week Brett Gurzell turned in a pair of wins on the day.

At first doubles, Gurzell and Drake Malcolm continued to impress, working their way to an 8-2 victory. Sporting an incredibly young lineup, the freshman tandem of Brendan Morrison and Brandon Blake cruised to an 8-0 win at second doubles. Third doubles went in favor of the Brits via default.

All singles matches were handily won by the Britons. Gurzell and Morrison competed at one and two singles, taking their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Malcolm took his match at third singles by 6-0, 6-1 margins. Rounding out singles competition was freshman Josh Doyle, winning 6-0, 6-0.

MIAA action continues this weekend when Albion heads to Alma. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
