McGann drives in two in non conference finale

ALBION – The Albion College baseball team's non conference finale did not go as planned, as the Brits were downed by Bluffton University, 9-2.

Bluffton scored two in the top of the first and another in the second. Albion – unable to get anything going offensively – was shut out until the ninth inning. The Beavers put the game out of reach in the eighth, plating six runs in the inning. 

Albion's lone runs came off the bat of Matt McGann in the ninth. With two away, Travis Weide was hit by a pitch and lifted for pinch runner, Sam Grant. Sophomore Carson Dunn hit a single off the end of the bat, putting two aboard to McGann. 

McGann crushed a double to the gap in right center, driving in Grant and Dunn to give Albion its only two runs of the game. 

The Britons left 10 runners stranded, as the pitching staff allowed 10 free passes (4 HBP, 6 BB).

Tomorrow, Albion heads to Trine for the doubleheader of the MIAA series. The twinbill has been pushed up from Sunday, as rain is in the forecast. A nine inning game will follow a seven inning affair, with first pitches at 2 and 4 p.m.
