Men's lacrosse throttles Calvin behind Conley's 11 points

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Using a 14-0 run, the Albion College men's lacrosse team commenced MIAA play with a 22-9 throttling over Calvin University. Jace Conley totaled 11 points on the dominant day for the Brits. 

Reigning MIAA Defensive Player of the Week, Eddie Symons, was 21 for 29 from the faceoff X, picking up 15 ground balls. Brock Yabs and Ethan Rottell totaled six points apiece. 

Out to a slow start, Calvin held a 6-5 lead early in the second. With 8:44 to play in the first half, a Conley goal ignited the 14-0 Albion run. The fifth year senior's goal was followed with strikes by Rottell, Cal Stearns and another from Conley to give Albion a 9-6 lead at the half. 

In the third, the visitors outscored Calvin, 4-0 to hold a 13-6 heading into the fourth quarter. In the period, Albion received goals from Conley, Stearns, Yabs and senior Sam Puzevic

The Albion offense exploded to open the fourth, tallying four goals in the first two minutes. Two from Conley, coupled with another Yabs strike and one by freshman Marcus Haynie lifted Albion to a commanding 17-6 edge. 

Rottell and Puzevic combined to dish out seven assists in the win. Albion improves to 8-3 overall, 1-0 in the conference. 

In goal, Jack Gogonis earned the win, notching seven saves. 

Albion will host Hope College on Wednesday as part of its D3 Week celebration. Game time will be at 6 p.m.
