Western starts season with solid weekend

MIDLAND, Mich. – On Sunday, the Albion College western equestrian team kicked off its season, seeing three riders qualify for Regionals in the process. 

In the morning show, Albion was the Reserve High Point Team. The Britons had two riders win their sections in Rookie B Horsemanship – Ella Farwell and Anastasia Kiser. Also placing in Rookie B Horsemanship was Evelyn Michelin, finishing fifth. 

In Open Horsemanship, Albion saw Carli Kerns finish second as Aria Morgan took seventh. The pair also scored in Open Reining with Morgan taking fifth and Kerns finishing seventh.

Anna Divis was third overall in Level II Ranch Riding, as Madison Brilley placed sixth. The same two riders were second and sixth in Level II Horsemanship. In Rookie A Horsemanship, the Britons received points from Bryn Osborne.

Katelyn Proshek and Kailey Kowalchuk each placed high in Beginner Horsemanship, taking second and fourth respectively.

Albion had four riders place in two sections of Level I Horsemanship – Madison Weedon (third), Amelia Otten (fourth), Ainslie Schlagel (second) and Jenna Smith (third).

Following the morning show, Kiser qualified for Western Regionals for Rookie Horsemanship.

In the afternoon show, the Brits were the High Point Team. Kerns and Morgan went 1-2 in Open Reining before going on to place third and fourth in Open Horsemanship.

Divis won Level II Ranch Riding, while Brilley added a third place finish. In Rookie B Horsemanship, Abigail Nevins was third, while Farwell won the section. Osborne won the Rookie A Horsemanship event.

Proshek (first) and Kowalchuk (fifth) each scored in the afternoon Beginner Horsemanship event. Brilley and Divis went second and fourth in Level II Horsemanship, before Smith and Weedon placed second and third in Level I Horsemanship. 

Rounding out the day, going 1-2 in their section of Level I Horsemanship was Schlagel and Otten

Jenna Smith and Amelia Otten qualified for Western Regionals for Level I Horsemanship.
