Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB falls in overtime heartbreaker

ALBION – After netting the game-tying basket in the waning seconds of regulation, the Albion College men's basketball team dropped an 81-75 overtime contest to Alma College. The Scots had a big and-one in overtime to put the game out of reach.

Marco Lucchesi was nearly unstoppable, scoring a career-high and game-best 25 points. Fellow senior AJ Barden also recorded a monster evening, scoring 17 points and hauling in a career-high 19 rebounds. The 19 rebounds is two shy of the Albion single-game record, which happened on three occasions.

With 15 points, Kam Mayes was the only other Albion player to finish in double figures.

In a very evenly matched contest, Albion held a slim five point lead at the half. Every time the Brits would threaten to make a large run, the Scots continuously had an answer. In the second half, the Scots held a 62-55 lead with 3:10 to play before the hosts rallied to send the game into overtime.

Throughout the final three minutes, eight of Albion's 10 points came from Barden – including the bucket to send the game into overtime. Jaylen Flaniken lobbed a perfect pass to the senior with 2.8 seconds to play, sparking life back into the Albion bench.

In overtime, the Scots were in total control, holding a seven point lead and never looking back. Despite valiant efforts down the stretch from the hosts, it was not quite enough to knock off Alma.

The Scots capitalized on Albion miscues, scoring 26 points off turnovers. Alma also received 17 points from its bench, compared to just six from Albion's.

Saturday starts a string of three straight road contests for the Britons. Albion heads to Kalamazoo College for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
