Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Childers perfect as MBB wins in overtime

Sophomore Nate Childers was a perfect 9-9 from the floor, 5-5 from three in Saturday's win

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A perfect day, a pair of career-highs and a resounding revenge win lifted the Albion College men's basketball team to a 97-86 overtime win over Kalamazoo College. The win comes just three days after a disappointing overtime loss at home.

Nathan Steinman and Nate Childers each scored a career-high 24 points in the win. Coming off the bench, Childers was a perfect 9 of 9 from the floor – including 5 of 5 from beyond the arc. His only miss of the day came at the foul line late in the contest. Steinman's 24 points was aided by seven rebounds and six assists.

The Britons held control for the entire first half, leading by as many at 19 along the way. Things looked bleak early on for the Hornets, but the hosts cut the deficit to nine at the half, as Albion took a 49-40 lead into the locker room.

Out of the half, the Hornets continued to chip away at the Albion lead, eventually tying the game at 81 with 10 seconds on the clock. The Britons had a decent look at the game-winner, but the shot rattled out forcing overtime.

Once Kalamazoo gained an 84-83 lead in overtime, the Britons went on an 11-0 run to deflate the hopes of the hosts. Following a free throw and a stop at the other end, Steinman buried a triple to give Albion a three point advantage. Kam Mayes forced a turnover on the next Kalamazoo possession, leading to a 3-pointer off the hand of Kurtis Rhodes. The freshman finished with 14 points, as both buckets were assisted by AJ Barden

Down the stretch, Steinman sank three of four free throws to seal the win. With the win, Albion improves to 8-9 overall, 2-4 in the MIAA.

As a team, Albion dominated the boards with 42 rebounds, compared to 25 from the Hornets. Steinman, Mayes and Barden all ended with seven boards for the Brits.

Led by Childers and Steinman, the Brits shot 61 percent from the floor and 57 percent from beyond the arc.

On Wednesday, Albion heads to RV Hope College for an 8 p.m. contest.
