Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Edwards lifts women's hoops to conference win

ALBION – Led by a career-high 20 points from DB Edwards, the Albion College women's basketball team earned a resounding 68-51 win over Alma College. With the win, the Brits bump Alma in the MIAA standings, sitting fourth in the league.

Edwards's 20 points was a game-best, as she was 9-15 from the floor and brought down seven rebounds while blocking two shots. Senior Daniah Beavers added 16 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Both Lolo Reed (13 points) and Riley Davis (10 points) finished in double figures. Junior Emma Cooke also totaled eight rebounds for the Britons.

Davis did a phenomenal job guarding the MIAA's leading scorer, Taylor Sas. Sas came into Saturday's game averaging 18.2 points per game, and only had six heading into the fourth quarter. Sas finished with 12 points overall, as Davis, Payton Baker and the Britons did a great job at limiting her chances.

Out of the gate, Albion was poised to avenge a loss from December, taking a 21-7 lead after one period. Alma slowly found its groove in the second quarter, but the hosts maintained a 36-20 lead.

Alma cut the lead to 11 in the third, which ignited a 7-0 run by Albion. In that stretch, five of Albion's seven points came from Beavers.

One more in the fourth, the Scots trimmed the lead to 11, but this time the Britons had answers from Edwards and Davis. A pullup jumper from Edwards was followed by a 3-pointer at the top of the key from Davis, proving to be the dagger.

With Beavers leading the way, Albion had 18 second chance points. The Britons also finished with 44 points in the paint compared to 24 from the Scots.

The Britons travel to Kalamazoo on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start.
