Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Watkins nets 20 in win at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Aided by a 20-point performance and a double-double, the Albion College women's basketball team picked up a 69-44 win at Kalamazoo College. Brazyll Watkins led all scorers with 20 points, as Daniah Beavers contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior point guard Lolo Reed set a career-high with nine assists in the win.

After one quarter, the Britons held an 18-11 lead, thanks to an early 10-2 advantage. The period ended with back to back buckets from Emma Cooke and reigning MIAA Player of the Week, DB Edwards, for the seven point cushion. Edwards finished the night with six points, six steals and seven rebounds.

Albion maintained a slim lead throughout the second quarter before going on an explosive run in the third. After the Hornets cut the Briton lead to four points, the visitors went on a 9-0 run to create distance and hold a double digit advantage. It was a balanced effort, as Riley Davis, Payton Baker and Ava Guilford netted points towards the end of the period.

Heading into the final 10 minutes, the Brits had built a large advantage to run away with the conference road win.

With Beavers leading the boards, Albion outscored Kalamazoo on second chance opportunities, 14-0. Albion also held a significant edge on points in the paint, outscoring the Hornets 50-28.

On Saturday, the Britons head to The University of Olivet for a doubleheader. The women play at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 3 p.m.
