Western sends four to Regionals at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – On Sunday, the Region-leading Albion College western equestrian team competed in a doubleheader at Michigan State University. In the AM show, the Britons were the Reserve High Point Team.

During the AM show, junior Kailey Kowalchuk and sophomore Anna Divis qualified for Regionals. In the afternoon show, Aria Morgan and Miley Phillips qualified in their respective events.

Starting off the day in Open Reining, Carli Kerns earned a runner-up finish, as Aria Morgan finished fifth. The Britons then saw a pair of riders place in Level II Ranch Riding, with Miley Phillips taking third and Ainslie Schlagel finishing fourth.

Kowalchuck won Beginner Horsemanship to qualify for Regionals. Junior Robert Dameron was fourth in the event. Later, Katelyn Proshek won Rookie A Horsemanship.

In Rookie B Horsemanship, Bryn Osborne was fourth, as Evelyn Michelin placed second. Divis Won Level II Horsemanship en route to the Regional qualification, while Kerns rounded out the show with a fourth place finish in Open Horsemanship.

In the afternoon show, Morgan and Kerns were fourth and fifth in Open Reining. Junior Miley Phillips followed with a first place finish in Level II Ranch Riding.

Dylan Allison took fifth in Beginner Horsemanship. Albion saw two place in the next event with Morgan taking second and Divis finishing fifth in Open Horsemanship. Four Britons went on to place in Level II Horsemanship, led by Madison Weedon's win. Ainslie Schlagel was second, as Jenna Smith and Amelia Otten were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Proshek claimed second in Rookie B Horsemanship before sophomore Ella Lou Farwell earned sixth in Level I Horsemanship. In the other section of Rookie B, Abigail Nevis was fifth. Ending the day was Kowalchuk in Rookie A Horsemanship, taking fourth.

The Western team will host a home show on Feb. 10-11.
