Volleyball rallies for thrilling conference win

ALBION – Backed by a career-high 14 kills from Margaret Jones, a young and spirited Albion College volleyball team battled to a 3-2 victory over Trine University. Jones was one of three Brits to finish with double-digit kills. 

Jones's 14 was accompanied by five total blocks, leading the team with a .306 hitting percentage. Freshmen Kayda Herrick (13 kills) and Bri Whitfield (12 kills) provided incredible offense from both the outside and the right side. 

Joelle Boeskool's 30 assists led the way, as fellow freshman Molly Edmunds totaled 17. 

Sophomore Paige Williamson turned in another phenomenal performance, recording 24 digs in the win. A trio of freshmen contributed double-digit digs – Ava Wilcox (11), Herrick (10) and Boeskool (10). 

After winning the first set, the Brits fell in the next to two and were forced into a must-win fourth set. Tied at 22, a Whitfield kill was followed by a Thunder error to push the Britons to set points. Jones's sparkling night continued with an ace, sending the game to a fifth set. 
Albion trailed multiple times in the fifth, but constantly rallied. Knotted at 13, a pair of Trine errors lifted the Britons to an incredible conference victory. 

This weekend, Albion heads to Illinois Wesleyan for three non-conference games. The Brits will play Millikin at 7 p.m. CST on Friday.
