Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bench lifts men's basketball to home win

ALBION – Backed by 62 points from its bench, the Albion College men's basketball team left no doubt in an 84-63 win over Westminster College. The Britons erased a five point halftime deficit and used the final 10 minutes to secure a large lead.

Michael Umeh led Albion with 16 points and pulled down eight boards. The junior was 6 of 8 from the floor and grabbed six offensive rebounds. Freshman Mekhi Wingfield added a career-high 13 points, while Nate Childers added 11 – including a 75 percent mark from three. All three Brits came off the bench in the victory.

A slow start to the game saw the Titans leading 30-25 at the half. Less than five minutes into the second half, Westminster took a 12 point lead at 43-31.

Albion immediately answered with a 15-0 run, with six points coming from Umeh in that stretch. The run was capped when Albion took the lead thanks to a corner three off the hand of Childers.

Holding a 52-50 advantage with 10:20 on the clock, the Britons used another big run to create distance from the Titans – this time a deficit too large for the visitors to overcome. Wingfield ignited the run with a triple and bookended it with a layup, giving Albion a double digit lead.

Fifth year AJ Barden led all players with 12 rebounds. Truman King's four assists led Albion in the win.

The Britons improve to 2-1 on the young season and will host Oberlin Tuesday evening.
