Football sees seven named to All-MIAA teams

Seven members of the Albion College football team were honored with All-MIAA accolades. This comes on the heels of the Britons closing out the season with a 41-21 victory over Calvin, going 7-3 overall.

Trevor Smith, Michael Pruchnic and Jayth Joseph were all First Team honorees.

Smith was critical in the second half of the season for the Albion offense. The tight end finished the season with 340 receiving yards and six total touchdowns. His biggest game came in the season finale, racking up 123 all-purpose yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Pruchnic was a stalwart on the defensive line. He tallied six TFL on the season, accounting for 13 yards lost for opponents. The senior added two quarterback hurries on the year, and made things difficult for opponent offenses.

Joseph, a fifth year senior, was tremendous for the Britons in his final year. With 70 total tackles, Joseph was second on the team. He also led the Britons with seven TFL and picked off a pass in his home finale.

On the second team, Luke Lovell, Dilon Denison, Mitchell Abrams and Connor Davey were all recognized.

Lovell was one of the best quarterbacks in the conference all season long, throwing for 2,924 yards and 29 touchdowns to just six interceptions. In five of Albion's 10 games, the senior threw for over 300 yards. Like Smith, he finished his career with his biggest game with 422 passing yards and five touchdowns.

Denison's seven receiving touchdowns led Albion this season, as the senior was one of Lovell's top targets. He hauled in a team-best 41 passes for 527 yards on the season, and six of his seven touchdowns happened in MIAA action.

Abrams led the offensive line and did a marvelous job protecting Lovell all season long. Starting in all 10 contests, he anchored a team that finished with nearly 1,300 rushing yards and allowed just 13 sacks on the year.

Transforming into a linebacker midseason, Davey excelled for the Britons, collecting 37 total tackles. The sophomore added 4.5 TFL, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Albion finished the season with a 7-3 overall record, going 5-2 in the MIAA.
