Terre Haute, Ind. - The Albion Britons traveled to Rose-Hulman to compete in their final non-conference match up of the season. The Brits would fall 24-38 to the Fightin' Engineers.
Ian Deromedi went 18-for-34 for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
Jerone Turner led the rushing attack with 63 yards on 12 attempts.
Sherron Sutton recorded 40 yards on six receptions and a touchdown. Aiden Quinn led the defense with eight tackles, three being for a loss, and recorded 1.5 sacks.
Dewayne Williams and
Devon Buskin Jr. were close behind each with seven tackles and a sack. The Brits defense as a whole recorded five sacks, three fumble recoveries, and Kam Jones forced a fumble.
The Brits would get the first offensive possession of the game, they would take the ball 62 yards in 12 plays and 6:11 and Sutton would be wide open in the end zone for a three yard touchdown pass from Deromedi on 4th and goal. An 18 yard rush by Turner would set the Brits up on the Engineers six to open the door for the Brits to score.
The Brits defense would come up big with a recovery of a bad snap by the Engineers and
Jordan Davis would recover the ball at the Rose-Hulman nine yard line, letting the offense take over after just three plays. The Brits would take just one play and eight seconds and
Alex Trudell would have a nine yard touchdown run to give the Brits a 14-0 lead with 7:25 left in the opening quarter.
The Brits defense would again be on the field just three plays before the Engineers would have another bad snap that Issac Rehberg would recover at the Rose-Hulman 13 yard line. The Brits would take just four seconds for Deromedi to find
Ethan Barker in the back corner of the end zone to take a 21-0 lead with 6:22 remaining in the opening quarter. The Brits defense would continue to hold strong and force the Engineers to go three and out with 4:21 left in the 1st. The Brits offense would look to grow their lead, however the Engineers would pick it off and return it for a touchdown, cutting the Brits lead to 21-7 to end the first quarter.
The Brits would open the second half with a three and out and the Engineers would take five minutes and close the gap with another touchdown, 21-14. The Brits would look to grow their lead and a 13 yard rush by Turner would give the Brits a much needed first down, however the Engineers would come up with another interception with 7:47 left in the second quarter. The Engineers would score another touchdown, tying the game 21-21 with 5:56 left. The Brits would go for it on 4th down on the Engineers 41, however they would come up just short and turn the ball over on downs with 3:01 left in the half. Both teams would trade a punt, before the Engineers would kick a 51 yard field goal to take a 24-21 lead heading into the half.
The Engineers would get the ball to start the second half and would go for it on 4th and 3 and
Dewayne Williams would come up with a big QB hurry forcing the Engineers to turn the ball over. The Brits would look to get their offense going again, however the Engineers defense would pick the Brits off again, and come away with a touchdown to go up 31-21. The Brits offense would continue to struggle as the next drive the Brits would fumble and the Engineers would recover. The Brits defense would respond with their own fumble recovery as
Caleb Vaughn would come up with it. The Brits offense would take over looking to regain the momentum, however the Brits would have another fumble to give the Engineers the momentum. Just one play later the game would enter a lightning delay that would last an hour and 20 minutes.
The Engineers would come out of the delay and go nine plays to score another touchdown and take the lead 38-21. With 4:00 the Brits would look to score for the first time since the opening quarter. Deromedi would complete a 19 yard shot to Sutton, who holds on through heavy contact, and a 13 yard completion to
Braden Fracassi to set the Brits up at the Engineers 22 yard line. The Engineers defense would stiffen and the Brits would be forced to kick a 36 yard field goal to close the gap to 14 with 1:13 left in the third.
Entering the fourth quarter, teams would trade off punts, and with 7:55 the Brits would get the ball back. The Brits would go for it on 4th and 7 on the Rose-Hulman 38 yard line and despite positive yards by Trudell, the Brits would come up short and turn the ball over on downs with 7:00 left in the game. The Engineers would take their time and turn the ball over on downs, leaving the Brits just 1:45 to try and come back. Deromedi would look to find
Nolan Carruthers, who nearly comes up with a one handed grab, however heavy contact by the Engineers forces the incompletion. The Brits come up short and turn the ball over on downs with just 57 seconds left. The Engineers would kneel the game out and the Brits would fall to 0-3.
The Britons look to bounce back as they enter conference play Saturday September 26th as they travel to Holland, MI to take on the Flying Dutch of Hope at 1 PM.
