Football stymied by No. 16 Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. – Unable to keep pace with the No. 16 team in the nation, the Albion College football team fell 41-14 to Hope College.

Luke Lovell was 21 for 30 with a touchdown and a pick, throwing for 216 yards. Defensively, fifth year linebacker Jayth Joseph led the Brits with 10 total tackles.

By halftime, the Flying Dutch had built a 21-0 lead over the Britons. Out of the half, Albion received the third quarter kickoff and turned the long drive into a touchdown. Lovell found Trevor Smith for a 7-yard score to cut the deficit to a pair of scores. Logan Grwinski nailed the PAT with just over five minutes erased from the third.

With a Hope touchdown later in the period, the hosts held a 28-7 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes. Albion's second touchdown came when Zander Desentz connected with Colby Taylor-Browning for a 32-yard TD.

Chris Bowman recorded five punts for 198 yards, landing three inside the Flying Dutch 20.

Hope outgained Albion 465-300 in the loss and limited the Brits to 6 of 14 on third down conversions.

The Britons will host their final home game next Saturday – 1 p.m. contest against Olivet.
