Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Trewhella's 22 lifts WBB to comeback

ANGOLA, Ind. – Erasing a 10-point halftime deficit, the Albion College women's basketball team surged in the second half to knock off Millikin University, 75-63. Sophomore Meghan Trewhella's career-high 22 points – 16 coming in the second half — vaulted the Brits in the comeback.

Trewhella was an efficient 10 of 15 from the floor, adding four assists, six rebounds and three steals. Freshman Brooklynn Tornes also added a career-best, scoring 17 points and dishing out an Albion-high five dimes.

Connecting on six 3-pointers in the opening quarter, Millikin had the hot hand early on. Throughout the first half, the two teams battled back and forth, but the Big Blue took a 44-34 lead into the break.

As Albion slowly chipped away at Millikin's lead, Khaleeya Cook knotted the game at 51, thanks to a 3-pointer. Cook came off the bench to contribute 14 points and haul in six rebounds. Millikin regained a slight lead by the end of the third, but the Brits were right in striking distance, trailing 55-53 heading into the fourth.

The Britons outscored Millikin 22-8 in the final 10 minutes, opening the quarter on an 8-0 run. Buckets from Tornes, Trewhella and Emma Cooke were capped with two Cooke free throws, seeing Albion take a 61-55 lead. Cooke scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Up three with 4:30 to play, Cooke corralled a big offensive rebound and converted the putback to give the Brits a five point edge. Getting a stop at the other end led to another Trewhella bucket, before the sophomore hustled back for a steal and a Millikin turnover. As Trewhella remained sharp down the stretch, she gave the Britons a 69-61 lead with just over two minutes remaining.

Albion shot 53 percent from the floor, holding Millikin to a 41 percent shooting night. The Britons also won the battle inside, outscoring Millikin in the paint, 44-22.

On Friday, Albion will play the second game of the Trine Holiday Classic with a 3:15 p.m. tip against Mount St. Joseph.
