Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Comeback bid falls narrowly short for WBB

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trailing by as many as 17 points, the Albion College women's basketball team went back and forth in the final minutes, but ultimately fell to Mount Saint Joseph, 68-65.

One day after her career-high, Meghan Trewhella set a new personal-best with 25 points on a 12 of 16 shooting effort. Ava Guilford was tremendous on both sides of the ball, scoring 12 points while dishing out six assists, grabbing six rebounds and swiping five steals.

The story was all MSJ in the first half, with the Lions building a lead as large as 17 points. Throughout the final minutes of the second quarter, Albion slowly chipped away at the MSJ advantage, with the Lions leading 40-27 at the break.

In the third quarter, Albion's defense led to buckets at the other end, outscoring the Lions 21-8 in the period. By the end of the third, the Britons had worked all the way back to even the score at 48.

As the teams continued to trade leads and ties, MSJ hit a and-one with seven seconds on the clock to ultimately help them prevail.

Emma Cooke's 13 rebounds led all players in the game.

Albion will be off for the holiday before resuming play at the Smokey Ballinger Classic, hosted by Otterbein University. The Brits will play the host Cardinals on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.
