Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brits bounce Alma in MIAA Quarterfinals

ALBION – What an absolute great day to be a Brit.

Buoyed by a boisterous crowd, the Albion College women's basketball team continued its hot ways with a 76-50 win over Alma College in the MIAA Tournament. Winners of six straight, Albion advances to take on Hope College Friday night in the Semifinals.

Brazyll Watkins led all players with 20 points, going 8 of 9 from the floor and sinking all four free throws. Watkins was joined in double figures by Emma Cooke and Riley Davis, as the Brits used a balanced attack to knock off the Scots.

Cooke's 15 points came on a 7 of 8 shooting performance while corralling seven rebounds. Davis scored 10, dished out four assists and blocked two shots.

It was a tight first quarter, seeing the hosts lead 17-16 after one. Backed by an enthusiastic crowd, the Kresge Krazies aided the Brits to outscore Alma 20-11 in the second period. The first six points of the quarter went to the Brits, as Daniah Beavers and Davis were part of that run. Beavers came off the bench to add eight points and haul in a game-high 10 rebounds. A late flurry by the Scots was halted by the halftime horn, seeing Albion lead 37-25.

With the game still in reach for Alma, a prolific shooting squad, Albion went up by 20 with 7:55 to play to truly seal the game. That jumper came from DB Edwards who tallied nine points off the bench.

Limited in the first half to foul trouble, Lolo Reed put together a solid stat line of nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Ava Guilford led all players with five dimes on the night.

Albion shot 57 percent from the field, while the Scots connected on just 36 percent of their shots. Led by Cooke and Watkins, Albion won the battle in the paint with 54 points compared to Alma's 24.

On Friday, the Britons head to Hope College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against the No. 9 ranked Flying Dutch.
