Long balls lift baseball to series win

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time in program history, the Albion College baseball team has won the season series with Franklin College.

Backed by a two home run day from Kris Stojanovski, the Britons knocked off the Grizzlies, 14-7 in Sunday's rubber match. With five long balls on the season, the junior sits second in the MIAA. As a team, the Britons finished with four homers in the win.

In the top of the second, Evan Schuster led off the inning with a solo shot to right. Catcher Garrett Draper followed with a single up the middle before Braeden Emery crushed his second homer in as many days for a 3-0 Albion lead. In the fourth, Emery worked a one-out walk and stole second. He then stole third and moved home on a throwing error to inflate the lead to 4-0.

The Britons went on to plate two more in the top of the fifth. Jack Lasceski and Schuster drew walks with a Mark Lauro single. With the bases loaded and one away, a wild pitch sent Lasceski home before Draper rolled over a RBI groundout for a 6-0 advantage.

Ryker Mazey led off the sixth inning with a walk – one of his three free passes on the afternoon. He moved to second when Austyn Stephens smacked a single and came around to score off a double down the left field line from Carson Dunn. Both Lasceski and Lauro rolled RBI groundouts to second, driving in two more runs before Stojanovski's first home run of the day.

Franklin used the next two frames to cut Albion's lead to 10-5. Stojanovski cranked his second of the day, fifth of the year to center for a three run shot. Albion's final run came from an extra base hit from Emery.

Drew Renner (1-0) picked up the win with two innings in relief. Scotty Clippert tossed the final three frames to earn the save. Sunday's starter Brayden Raether was effective in his four innings, allowing just one hit and one Franklin run.

Patient at the plate, Albion drew 12 walks and struck out just four times. Lauro, Emery and Stojanovski all finished with two hits apiece, as Emery and Stojanovski combined to drive in seven.

The Britons are scheduled to host Bluffton on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
