Baseball comes up just short against Knights

ALBION – A potential walkoff home run was caught at the warning track as the Albion College baseball team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Calvin University. 

Albion was held scoreless throughout the final seven innings, as all three runs came in the first and second. Evan Schuster led off the game being hit by a pitch and stole second. He came around to score when Matt McGann drove a single to right center for a 1-0 lead. The Brits tacked on their second run on a fielder's choice later in the frame. 

Calvin took a 3-2 lead in the second before the hosts answered to tie it up in the home half. Junior shortstop Ryker Mazey slapped a leadoff single off the bag at third and swiped second. He scored when the Knights committed a fielding error to tie the game at three. 

Calvin took a 4-3 lead in the sixth and it proved to be enough, as Albion left 11 runners stranded. 

The series wraps up tomorrow afternoon in Grand Rapids with a doubleheader.
