Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Salinas sends MLAX to 11th straight title game

ALBION – Captain Timmy has entered the chat.

On an emotional night, co-captain Timmy Salinas was the hero, scoring the game-tying goal with 26 seconds on the clock and the game-winner with 21 seconds remaining in overtime, lifting the Albion College men's lacrosse team defeated Calvin University, 14-13. The Britons advance to the MIAA Championship game for the 11th consecutive season.

Trailing 13-10 with 2:59 to play, Cal Stearns scored on a high bouncer to bring the Britons within two. A hard hit left Stearns sidelined and a man-up opportunity for Albion, making use of it to bring the hosts within a goal. The MIAA's leading goal scorer in Marcus Haynie netted his first goal of the evening with 1:52 to play off a feed from Brock Yabs

Calvin threatened to put the game out of reach, but Will Richardson caused a Calvin turnover that lead to a clear by the Brits. Salinas fired off the tying goal with 26 seconds on the clock, bringing the entirety of Alumni Field to its feet.

The Knights won the ensuing faceoff, but MIAA Second Team selection Logan Bride caused a turnover, forcing overtime.

Albion's defense held tough in the extra period, forcing three Calvin turnovers. Rottell found Salinas who buried the game-winner through a tight window, sending Albion into the Championship game once again.

Stearns led Albion with six points while Rottell dished out three assists. Freshman goalie Caleb Howell tallied 11 saves in goal for the Brits.

Bride and Logan Bonner each caused three turnovers.

On Saturday, Albion heads to No. 1 seed Hope for a 7 p.m. game in the MIAA Championship contest.
